Outstanding
municipal services
The
natural beauty of Bloomfield Township, with its winding roads, rolling
hills and tranquil lakes, lends an attractive setting to the more
than 16,000 homes within its boundaries.
Because
most of the Township is residential, municipal services are geared
to homeowners and their needs. Taxes are surprising low for the
broad range and high quality of services. Combine these elements
with the wide range of affordable housing available and it’s
clear to see why Bloomfield Township is such a desirable place to
live.
Natural
beauty protected
Stewardship over the rolling hills, tranquil waters and lush woodlands
that make Bloomfield Township unique is handled on many levels,
not the least of which are the efforts of the Township’s Engineering
and Environmental Services Department. Professionals in this department
are responsible for coordinating and managing capital improvement
projects for the Township’s water, sanitary and storm sewer
systems and roadways. Bloomfield Township boasts several miles of
picturesque, paved safety paths that are a perfect fit for the active
nature lover. As the Township is located in the headwaters of both
the Rouge and Clinton river watersheds, the Department works with
other communities to plan, implement and monitor watershed management
practices.
Proper
planning
One look at Bloomfield Township gives proof that proper development
does not happen by accident. A full-service, professional planning
and development operation helps to keep the Township’s residential
neighborhoods and business and commercial areas attractive, safe
and vibrant.
Safe
travel
Bloomfield Township is the only township in the state to offer its
residents the full services of a modern Road Division. These duties
include: pothole patching, dust control, road grading, roadside
mowing, salting and plowing, sweeping, tree trimming and litter
clean-up.
Protecting
what you value
Response time and the capabilities of those responding are two important
factors to anyone facing an emergency. Bloomfield Township, with
its staff of highly trained, professional police and fire personnel,
offers a level of public safety services matched by few communities
in the state. Police officers are required to possess a four-year
degree and must satisfy rigorous continuing education requirements
during their tenure with the Township. Among the many services offered
to residents through the Police Department are house checks for
those staying out of town for extended periods, home security evaluations
and community watch program development.
Five
strategically located fire stations insure a fast response time
for residents facing fire or health related emergencies. With each
station housing an Advanced Life Support unit operating 24-hours-a-day,
residents are also assured expert care when they need it most.
Quality
of life knows no age
A broad range of recreational and enrichment opportunities await
Bloomfield Township seniors through the Bloomfield Township Senior
Services Department. In addition to a full-service Senior Center
with offerings ranging from educational classes to day trips, the
Bloomfield Township Senior Services Department also operates an
Adult Day Service program. Caring for an aging parent or loved one
can put tremendous strain on a family. Housed in a newly refurbished
facility on Franklin Road, the Adult Day Service Program provides
a welcome respite for families caring for elderly loved ones suffering
from dementia and related memory impairments. Further, the Adult
Day Service program provides a structured and safe environment for
ailing seniors to remain active both mentally and physically and
to develop new friendships.
Learning
is a lifelong endeavor
The Bloomfield Township Public Library is a point of pride for the
community and is presently undergoing a major expansion and revitalization.
When it is complete in 2008 its total size will be more than 100,000
square feet. The BTPL boasts one of the most extensive investment
collections in the area as well as a vast assortment of large print
best sellers.
